Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google’s most expensive AI model yet Gemini 2.5 Pro, an AI reasoning model with industry-leading performance on many benchmarks assessing coding, reasoning, and math, had its API pricing made public by Google on Friday.
Gemini 2.5 Pro costs $1.25 per million input tokens (around 750,000 words, longer than the complete “Lord of the Rings” trilogy) and $10 per million output tokens for prompts up to 200,000 tokens. Gemini 2.5 Pro costs $2.50 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens for prompts with more over 200,000 tokens, which are not supported by the majority of Google’s rivals.(Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google’s most expensive AI model yet)
Because of this pricing, developers must pay more for Gemini 2.5 Pro than for any other AI model that Google presently offers, including Gemini 2.0 Flash ($0.10/million input tokens, $0.40/million output tokens). Gemini 2.5 Pro is also more costly than a number of other frontier AI models, like DeepSeek’s R1 ($0.55/million input tokens, $2.19/million output tokens) and OpenAI’s o3-mini ($1.10/million input tokens, $4.40/million output tokens).

In fairness, Gemini 2.5 Pro, which is free of charge but has stringent rate restrictions, is less expensive than some other fiercely competitive models, such as Open AI GPT-4.5 ($75/million input tokens, $150/million output tokens) and Anthropos’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet ($3/million input tokens, $15/million output tokens). The first response from the tech sector has been mainly positive, with developers applauding what they consider to be reasonable charges.
